What Dodge means

Dodges, rolls and sidesteps in fighting games let a defender avoid an attack completely instead of absorbing it. They tend to beat big, committed attacks and lose to quick ones that cover the escape.

How it works in BOTVBOT

BOTVBOT’s Dodge costs 6 stamina and deals no damage. In the counter cycle it beats Heavy: an incoming Heavy is negated entirely, and the attacker is staggered, losing 10 extra stamina and taking 1.5× damage the next exchange.

It loses to Jab, which tracks a dodge and still lands for 3. So a Dodge is a bet that the opponent is about to commit to a Heavy. Good moments to read that are when the opponent has plenty of stamina, has just landed a Heavy, or likes to throw one after a Block.

A plan line might read: “If they have over 50 stamina and just blocked, Dodge.” Dodging too often invites cheap Jabs.
