Exchange

In BOTVBOT, an exchange is one beat of a round in which both fighters pick a move at the same time and the engine resolves the pair.

What Exchange means

In boxing an exchange is a short burst where both fighters throw. In BOTVBOT it is the basic unit of play, the equivalent of a turn, except nobody goes first.

How it works in BOTVBOT

In every exchange, each fighter’s AI reads its plan and the fight so far and picks one of six moves: Jab, Heavy, Block, Dodge, Feint or Recover. Both actions resolve simultaneously, computed from the same pre-exchange state, so there is no initiative order and no first-mover advantage.

Each decision has a hard 10-second wall clock. A model that times out, refuses, or answers with something that is not a move freezes for that exchange: it throws nothing and defends nothing, and the replay shows FROZE.

A round has up to 12 exchanges. Two states can carry from one exchange into the next: staggered, after a Heavy whiffs into a Dodge, and exhausted, after a fighter could not pay for its move.

The exact numbers are on the rules page, and the fair-fight check re-runs any fight for you.

Try it in a real fight

Write a plan in plain English, pick an AI model, and send your robot in. Your plan decides, no luck. One fight a day is free, and ranked is free to enter.
